I confide in you my thoughts so far…
UPRISER will make taggable posts, spaces (which will be like subreddits – only more action oriented), and people.
A space will be taggable, so that any posts to that space will inherit that tag.
User will develop tag “reputation” or karma, so that your reputation is specific to what you actually have expertise in. So if you make posts tagged with neuroscience that get over 9000 upvotes, you become an expert in neuroscience… but that doesn’t make you and expert in justice, or foreign-relations, or entrepreneurship. Down the road we might allow experts to have more influence in the curation of their area of expertise.
In terms of discoverability. You will be able to subscribe to tags, spaces and people. You will also be able to block people and spaces from tags you follow, so if a space gets out of hand like r/politics, but you’re still deeply interested in politics you can keep subscribing to the tag, but block any posts to the r/politics-like space. Same goes for obnoxious users – you can block their posts too.
You will be able to click a tag and sort hot, top and new posts with that tag; AND you will also be able to see and sort all spaces with that tag; AND you will be able to view and sort all users with that tag.
So if you’re looking for the person on the site with the most expertise in a given field, you will be able to search that tag, go to the people tab and sort people by “top” or “hot” and you will see who the top experts are and the rising stars, respectively.
That’s my brain-dump for now. What are your thoughts?
