The intention of The Power of Now and A New Earth isn’t to trigger a sudden transformation, but to convey a view of human psychology that has deep roots in Buddhism, Hinduism and Sufi Islam.
Tolle argues, that most people spend most of their lives with a constant “voice in their heads”, There are occasional pauses in the brain-chatter but mostly, we’re lost in thought. We’re especially lost in thoughts of the past and the future. “Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now,” Tolle says, “And that’s a revelation for some people: to realise that your life is only ever now.”
