Coca-Cola just won a court battle to defeat a 10-cent bottle refund program run by an Australian state government. Let's show them that there are forces greater than legal manipulations!
More than 111,000 people from 150 countries around the world signed a petition by corporate watchdog SumOfUs.org, demanding Coca-Cola end its opposition to the program. And yesterday, the company called police to its Sydney headquarters to stop the protest.
Now it's time for us to join together in OPERATION "Out of Order". Find your nearest Coke vending machine and tape an "out of order" sign to it.
Let Coke know that even if they got their dirty work done in a court of law, they are still OUT OF ORDER.

I'm in.. I think it's funny ppl missing the whole point it not about the energy used by recycling or the ozone it's about coke-cola there not for us u grow up. SIGNS AND PICS ALL THE WAY POWER TO THE PEOPLE
Is this the same Coca Cola company that dammed India & China's water to use for their plant while the residents went without? Are they the same one's that are draining US water basins to create bottled water for resale, destroying the lands leaving them barren bogs and not paying any retribution or conservatory monies to repair the damage? No, it can't be!
Grow up people! Don't you understand that it takes more energy to recycle than to dispose of anything? The problem is, recycling damages the ozone layer (the protective shield that keeps the oxygen that you and I breathe in our atmosphere). Do you want to be able to breath on your own accord or do you want to have to drag around an oxygen tank? How is it that 95% of you are missing the point on this. Coca-Cola is trying to protect you and our environment. Think logically and do your research.
love it!
The main fb to post to is 'out of order'. Nice one
So they defeated a government run program in a court battle, in which the courts are run by the government.......They should be mad at their own legal system not Coke. Also putting up these signs anywhere but Australia makes no sense in the first place.
Thank you ANON!
I fail to see how this will help, as just about all of those machines aren't owned by Coke, but by independent businesses Maybe it's different in AUS than in the US

I'm in. This sounds epic.
When you do this - PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!
Brilliant! Should have a 2-D barcode on the signs, directing to an informative site. Either a full sheet taped over the 'Coke' name, or a smaller sticker over the bill slot...
Seems like this op attacks the income of local shop owners etc. because people are mad at a corporation.
These vending machines are rented and stocked by the establishments that house them, i don't think any monies go directly to cola-corp.
as i understand it these are stocked by businesses who get there stock from a local supplier who gets his stock from a main supplier who gets his stock from cola-corp. That's a hell of a lot of vending machines being labelled before this even begins to have an impact on cola-corp, meanwhile local businesses in your communities are down revenue with stock they can't move. I think vending machine owners will get wise to this long before it impacts cola-corp making this a futile exercise.
So, you don't think the businesses stocking the machines pay Coca-Cola for the product to stock them with? Yes, businesses get the money, but Coke gets it first. If the public boycotts a type of drink, businesses will figure out what drink(s) the public wants to buy instead and start stocking those. We have to look at the bigger picture, and the bigger picture is getting Coke to realize that people don't want to buy their products if they're hurting recycling efforts.
I hate to sound like an apologist for Coke, I realize and agree with most of the negative things said about Coke here, but please realize not everything they do is bad. Here is an example of something they are doing that is truly helpful.
http://singularityhub.com/2013/01/17/kamen-and-coca-cola-take-on-worlds-clean-water-shortage-with-slingshot-purifier/
a water purifier that can take any water and purify it no matter how contaminated. One of the largest problems in the world today is not lack of water but lack of pure water. In the spirit of trying to do something positive, I would like to encourage you to write to coke and let them know that you oppose their recycling opposition, but support their water purification efforts with the slingshot. Lets see if we can move the bar in a positive direction.
rac: Coke hasn't done that great on water purification--they need electric for their machine and it is expensive and cumbersome. Here is a website with better technology--so don't feel bad about putting a sign on a Coke machine!
