Is the GCHQ manipulating your online interactions?
The UK intelligence agency GCHQ has developed sophisticated tools to manipulate online polls, spam targets with SMS messages, track people by impersonating spammers and monitor social media postings. Capabilities to boost views of YouTube videos, or to boost the circulation of particular messages are also detailed.
Among the programs revealed in the document are:
• GATEWAY: the “ability to artificially increase traffic to a website”.
• UNDERPASS to “change outcome of online polls”.
Citizens, don’t watch that boring clip about the generational predation of the federal reserve, or the militarization of our local police forces, just turn your brain off – and check out this cute video of a group of kittens playing with a box. It’s trending, and Kim and Kayne loved it!
Greenwald characterised the GCHQ statement as “questionable” in his article. Questionable doesn’t begin to describe what this is. This is about controlling the masses. They don’t want well informed citizens, they want impressionable tax cattle incapable of critical thought.[More.](http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/jul/14/gchq-tools-manipulate-online-information-leak)
