“Can someone please fill me in on how Hong Kong government is different from the rest of China. I know they have more autonomy or something but I don’t understand. Please someone enlighten me.”[theeRut](http://www.reddit.com/user/theeRut)

>That’s the point, they’re meant to have some autonomy and be different but that’s not really happening, and definitely not the “1 country, 2 systems” which HK was promised (for a transition period) during the handover. Beijing has been openly installing their own puppet government and only allowing pro-china loyalists to even run for election. China refuses to meet or discuss political reform but agreed that Hong Kong could have direct elections in 2017. Now they’re saying that only pre-approved candidates can run for election. This all kicked off in July/August. Since July there’s been Occupy Central (Central being the main CBD/government area of town), there’s been a University student lead sit-in, and then on Friday the secondary kids joined in and organized protests. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong and explain it much more eloquently but it’s 4:30 in the morning and my eyes are still burning![BadToaster2014](http://www.reddit.com/user/BadToaster2014)
